How To Change the Engine Oil in Your Hyundai

1. Safely Lift Your Vehicle
  • Use a hoist, jack stand, or ramp to lift your vehicle
  • Place a wheel block behind the wheels to secure it in place
2. Drain the Oil
  • Place the pan or bucket under the drain plug and oil filter (about two feet from the front of the vehicle)
  • Open the hood and remove the oil cap from the reservoir tank
  • Underneath the vehicle, remove the undertray with the screwdriver or wrench
  • Loosen the drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely
3. Replace the Oil Filter
  • Using the filter wrench, loosen and remove the oil filter
  • Ensure the gasket comes off as well
  • Dab some oil onto the new gasket and screw in the new oil filter
4. Add New Oil
  • Carefully pour new oil into the reservoir tank under the hood
  • Allow the oil to settle and use the dipstick to check the levels
  • Once the oil is to a satisfactory level, start the engine and let the new oil circulate
  • Recheck the oil level after shutting off the engine
  • Reset the maintenance light if needed

How to Choose the Right Engine Oil

Choosing the right engine oil will help protect the engine, enhance performance, and extend the life of the engine oil. With newer synthetic oils and efficient engine design, modern vehicles can go much longer between oil changes. The old recommendation used to be every 3,000 miles, but new Hyundai vehicles only need an oil change about once a year or every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. There are several types of engine oil formulations suitable for your Hyundai vehicle:

  • Conventional: The most cost-effective option, conventional oil is great for vehicles with simple engine designs and older models.
  • Synthetic: A specially engineered oil suitable for new and older vehicles - the even molecules withstand breakdown, buildup, and impurities for outstanding performance and longevity.
  • Synthetic Blend: A more cost-effective option than pure synthetic oil with some lasting qualities and great low-temperature performance properties.
  • High Mileage: Specifically formulated for older vehicles or newer vehicles with more than 75,000 miles to reduce oil leaks and burn-off.

Replacing the Windshield Wiper Blades

Most Hyundai wiper blades are the conventional style with a lock or clip that secures them in place. Some vehicles allow you to lift the arms off the windshield, but some Hyundai models have a safety feature that requires you to place the wipers in the park position from inside the vehicle before being able to lift them off the windshield. You can consult the owner's manual to determine the best way to replace the blades on your vehicle and follow these easy steps to replace the blades yourself:

  1. Find your wiper blade sizes by measuring or checking the owner's manual.
  2. Lift the wiper arm off the windshield. You may need to place them in the "park" position first. You can do this by holding the mist feature for about 20 seconds until the windshield wipers slide up into place.
  3. Press the locking button or clip to undo the latch. There are three basic types of wiper blade installation mechanisms: hook-mount, clip-on, or pin-mount. Most Hyundai windshield wipers are hook-mounted with a lock or clip.
  4. Carefully angle the wiper down and pull it off the arm.
  5. Slide the new wiper blade onto the hook and lock the mechanism into place.
  6. Gently lower the wiper arm onto the windshield glass.

How to Choose the Right Windshield Wiper Blades

Choosing the right wiper blades is easy when you visit our Parts Center. We carry a wide selection of factory-approved blades guaranteed to fit your vehicle. If you are shopping out in town for after-market wiper blades, many types are suitable for your vehicle and driving conditions. Here is a quick overview of the most popular types of replacement blades on the market:

  • Conventional: Durable and long-lasting, conventional blades have a squeegee-like blade with a large frame to provide tension onto the windshield.
  • Beam: Hugs the glass, has a wider swath, and has a sleek appearance made with a solid strip of metal and a blade of silicone or rubber. Considered the new standard.
  • Hybrid: Flexible and designed to create a custom fit onto the windshield, suitable for all weather conditions, and has a unique aerodynamic design.
  • Winter Wipers: A hybrid blade designed for tough winter conditions like snow and ice buildup.
